At Hyde High School lots of our students have excellent attendance. There is a strong link between good attendance and academic achievement. The better the attendance, the more likely students will achieve grades 4 or above in at least 5 GCSE's.
Excellent attendance and timekeeping is a life skill that demonstrates reliability. Future education providers and employers will ask to see school attendance records. We expect all of our students to aim for 100% attendance.
The graphic on the left shows you as a parent how important attendance is and how it could affect your child's progress.
The law gives no entitlement to parents to take their children on holiday in term time. It states that “headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances”
In order for Hyde High School to consider an absence request during term time, you must put the request in writing to the school Attendance Officer including the following:
Any application for leave must only be made in exceptional circumstances and supporting evidence may be requested. Exceptional circumstances are considered on an individual basis; School would not class any holiday during term time as exceptional.
If you choose to take your child on holiday during term time without permission from school then the Local Authority may issue a fine of up to £120 each.
