STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Rather than looking at the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning based on real-world applications.
At Hyde High School we run STEM extra curricular activities to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Two very successful extra curricular activities are F1 in schools and Greenpower car challenge.
F1 in Schools Ltd is a social enterprise working with committed industry partners to provide an exciting yet challenging educational experience through the magnetic appeal of Formula 1.
F1 in Schools is the only truly global educational programme that raises awareness of STEM and Formula 1 among students and school children in every region, in every country, on every continent.
Team Hyde sponsored by Sunshine windows competed in the North West regional finals and in their first competition finished 4th beating some very prestigious schools along the way. To compete in this competition Sophie, Rachel and Max had to produce a pit display, produce an Engineering Design portfolio and produce a 5 minute presentation on how they have developed their F1 car. The team won the prestigious award for the best engineered car in their category.
Greenpower Education Trust is a UK based charity with an outstanding track record in kick starting careers in engineering. Greenpower Education Trust help unlock potential and spark enthusiasm for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) through the excitement of motorsport.
Teams of students aged 9 to 25 from across the globe compete at Greenpower events in the UK and other countries including USA, Poland and China. The annual International Final takes place at the UK’s Silverstone National Circuit.
Hyde High School's team 'Hyde EMR racing' have competed for 2 years in the National heats. The team have built their eco electric car and have developed and raced on numerous occasions. They have gone from strength to strength in every event they have competed in and have now started to develop a brand new car for the 2020 season. The team have picked up awards along the way including the prestigious spirit of Greenpower award for their resilience and commitment to race their car.
