Governance Arrangements

Governance Structure 2024-25

Hyde High School is a local authority maintained (funded) mixed secondary school.

Governing Board

The Governing Board has three core functions:

  1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  2. Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Governing Board Sub-Committees and Panels

Three full Governing Board meetings take place (one per term) during the year. In addition to these, subcommittees hold termly meetings to look at

  • Leadership and Governance
  • Behaviour and Personal Development
  • Quality of Education
  • Finance and Personnel

There are other sub-committees and panels that meet as and when required. These include:

  • Pay Committee Panels
  • Student Disciplinary Panels
  • Staff Discipline and Grievance Panels
  • Complaints Panels
  • Governor Behaviour Panels

The Governing Board works to ensure that there is a systematic and robust review of the effective delivery of all statutory requirements so that the school complies with its statutory responsibilities.

The Hyde High School instrument of government was made by order of Tameside MBC on 30th March 2023.

The instrument of government states that the Governing Board shall consist of 16 members:

  • 2 parent governors appointed by parental nomination/election
  • 1 LA governor appointed by the Local Authority
  • 1 staff governor appointed by staff nomination/election
  • 1 Head teacher ex officio
  • 11 co-opted governors appointed by the Governing Board and who, in the opinion of the Governing Board, have the skills required contributing to the effective governance and success of the school.

Terms of office for Hyde High School Governors are 4-yearly.

Associate Members

Associate Members are not governors; they are part of the governance arrangements of the school to assist the Governing Board in its three core purposes (as detailed above) due to their expertise.

At Hyde High School the Governing Board may appoint Associate Members. Terms of office are for 4 years. Associate Members have voting rights at sub-committee level only, unless there is a conflict of interest.
