Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to the Hyde High School website at https://hydehighschool.uk/.

This website is run by Hyde High School. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
  • live video streams do not have captions

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Cardinal Allen Catholic High School is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2  AA standard, due to some of the non-accessible content listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

PDF Documents

Many of our PDFs are not compliant for the following reasons:

  • Ensure the first heading in a PDF is a H1 (WCAG 2.2 success criterion WCAG A 1.3.1)
  • Ensure PDFs specify a default language (WCAG 2.2 success criterion WCAG A 3.1.1)
  • Ensure PDF headings follow a logical order (WCAG 2.2 success criterion WCAG A 1.3.1)
  • Specify headings for every PDF (WCAG 2.2 success criterion WCAG A 1.3.1)
  • Fix untagged PDFs (WCAG 2.2 success criterion WCAG A 1.3.1)
  • Some use colours that do not meet minimum contrast (WCAG 2.1 success criterion WCAG A 1.4.3)
  • Ensure PDFs are machine readable (WCAG 2.2 success criterion A 1.1.1)
  • Some PDFs do not have alt-text for images (WCAG 2.2 success criterion A 1.1.1)
  • Define a title for all PDFs (WCAG 2.12 success criterion WCAG A 2.4.2)

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. For example, we do not plan to fix the archive of board meeting minutes, financial statements or other heritage documents. Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

Maps

Our website makes use of embedded maps from Google Maps. Where these are not accessible, essential information is always provided in an accessible format like an address.
